Sport as a vision

The new sports court is a space dedicated to sports, featuring high technical specifications, positioning DSM as a benchmark for tournament development in the region.

In 2023, the new sports court was delivered to students, teachers, and staff, marking one of the most significant infrastructure achievements in recent years, according to Carola Windmüller, Administrative and Financial Director of DSM.

The new court, built with high technical specifications, is "a reference in the field of sports facilities in the region", as explained by Juan Pablo Rendón, Logistics Manager of the School. Therefore, it was conceived as a space that allows for inter-institutional cooperation. In fact, sports events have already been held with other institutions, such as the Municipality of Itagüí, on this court. "This has fostered cooperation for sports development, not only for our students but also for people associated with the School", he recalls.

Regional tournaments

For the school, it's crucial that students take part in tournaments organized by other educational institutions in the Valle de Aburrá. "In addition to showcasing the School in different settings, these tournaments help develop skills such as solidarity, teamwork, and healthy competition", explains William Rendón. He also considers it essential to establish relationships with other institutions in the city, allowing an assessment of the School's sports level and areas for improvement.

On the other hand, he believes these participations have also been crucial in overcoming some mental health challenges stemming from the isolation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. "Many of our students had experienced difficulties in socializing after the lockdown. Participation in competitions like Interclases and other regional activities has helped them interact with others and socialize with strangers".

Meeting spaces

Although it's early, there is hope that DSM can host future intercollegiate meetings. "The first thing we needed was to provide suitable venues", mentions the Logistics Manager, who leads a project to make the School's sports spaces available to organizations in the metropolitan area during non-school hours. "The technical specifications of the courts and the multipurpose sports court make them ideal for the practice and training of professional sports", adds Juan Pablo Rendón. Currently, DSM has complete infrastructure for soccer, basketball, volleyball, swimming, and athletics. "These are facilities that few schools have", emphasizes William.

In the short term, a reform of the coliseum is planned. "Just as we did with the multipurpose sports court, we aim to equip it with the latest technology and provide state-of-the-art infrastructure”, concludes Juan Pablo.
