To teach a one-hour class is not just an academic endeavor. There are elements that are invisible to most people around our value promise at Deutsche Schule Medellín. Besides an excellent technological infrastructure, it is necessary for our physical facilities to be adequate in order to fulfil the needs of students, employees and the educational community in general. It is for those reasons that, along with the Directive Council and the Administrative and Financial Directions, the School is carrying out renovations and preemptive maintenance in our Campus buildings.

“We are a School with more than 53 years of existence. In that sense, some of our buildings must be modernized and remodelled to the current construction regulations”, explains Carola Windmüller, Administrative and Financial Director, who also added: “We are working on the Workshop and on the Central Library, and the Laboratories are almost finished”. It is also expected that during the second semester of 2022, the new roofs of the sports courts that were damaged during the rainy season of 2019 will be finished too. This is all framed within the School sustainability projects, which guarantee that our facilities will be up to date in terms of construction and technology.

With the help of external advisors, the Logistics department constantly monitors our buildings conditions in order to program preemptive maintenance that will guarantee the safety of the Educational Community. “Our actions are preemptive: this allows a careful planning and projection of our medium and long-term projects by optimizing resources administration”.

Along with the Directive Council, the Administrative and Financial Direction is carrying out renovations and preemptive maintenance in our Campus buildings.

More projects

At the end of 2021, the School received help from the German Government to carry out two more projects: the construction of the enclosure wall, which had to be demolished due to the regulations of the municipality of Itagüí, so that the public space can be used for pedestrian traffic; and the demolition of the administrative block, an action that needs to happen before the construction of a new and more modern building that is more suitable for our current needs.

“We received funds directly from the Foreign Ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany (Auswärtiges Amt), which is a great achievement in cooperation between Germany and our Institution. It is a reflection of good relations and the excellent administrative management that we have had during the past few years. This is a recognition of our solidity and continuity”, recognizes the Administrative and Financial Director.

Having funding from the German Government is a great accolade for our School. Without a doubt, it represents their trust in our sustainability and the results of being an Excellent German School abroad.
