How do students at Deutsche Schule Medellín live democracy?

Democracy is our right to vote, to choose who will represent us and, even though we don’t believe it, we have a lot to do with it because we exercise our democratic powers before we are old enough to vote. We are already exercising our democratic powers when we elect our class and student representatives, who are a part of the School Government. This gives us a little taste of what it will be like when we come of age and have the right to vote. Even though we are not considered citizens yet because we are not old enough to elect governors, majors and presidents, this prepares us for that moment.

In the mean time, students learn when they are class representatives. In Klasse 12, you can even be a Student representative. This shows us the big responsibilities that these people have because they are in charge of taking other people’s opinions and acting on them. If we all practiced democracy, we would have a better and fairer world that would allow us to express ourselves freely.
